The Heffalump and the Fragrance Cabinet

My goodness, time flies! The past two weeks I think my brain has experienced a minor meltdown. I have a million things to do, yes, because I haven't learned how to say no to people, so I kinda feel like I did when I was on Atarax (mush for brains). Not a good thing. I most certainly work best under pressure, but at the moment I feel disconnected. I have no idea where to start, how to start, or even what to do. The main thing on my agenda is the 2012 Christmas issue of a magazine, for which I'm the chief editor. Can you believe that? The second thing on that very same agenda is a translation job, and in between there's a couple of smaller tasks waiting to be done. I'm aching to start blogging again, even though I don't have that much to blog about.

At the moment I'm trying to work out how I want my office/makeup room, and how to make it as functional as possible. I need most my things within reach, which isn't really that simple from a wheelchair. We have installed a cabinet where I've chosen to display all my fragrances and I really love how it turned out. Now it's really easy to see what I have, and chose which scent to wear. Up until last week I've kept all my fragrances in their boxes in a closed cabinet, but some of them are so decorative it's a shame to hide them away like that. Now they're all sitting on glass shelves, lit up by LED lights (no UV rays, no heat).

We also went to IKEA, something I hate with all the fibers in my body, but for the very first time I came out of there filled to the brim with.. inspiration? Weird feeling. Suddenly I had this marvelous idea about how to make my office/makeup room even better, and I can hardly wait to see how my vision turns out! I think I've found a way to construct the perfect vanity area for myself, with excellent lighting and a way to store my makeup where I can reach everything without having to ask for help. My brain suddenly went into overdrive, and I started picturing myself uploading tutorials to YouTube! Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.. but this might just kindle my passion for makeup again, making it both easier and a lot more fun to do looks.

I also had a moment of having that feeling a little earlier tonight. I found a bunch of posts in my drafts folder that I thought I had already posted, but somehow I seem to have forgotten all about them. What a waste! Oh well, I guess I have a lot to chose from the next time I'm all out of inspiration.

Mama’s got a brand new..

Jack Frost decided it was time to leave after about a week, and now we're back to autumn again. At the most we measured 30 centimeters, or almost 12 inches of snow on our balcony! Insane. I have finally managed to dig out a fair amount of my makeup collection and photo equipment, so expect there to be some makeup related posts with pictures in the near future. I have been working on a few reviews, testing products, as well. Exciting! And you know how pleased I've been with Mr. DHL? I received the 'saddest' news last week; the new house isn't on his route, so I have no idea if the new Mr. DHL is nearly as fantastic as the old one. Thank you for the excellent service during the last four years, Mr. DHL! He did however bring me a last package; a brand new toy, but more about that later.

Let's see, what have I been up to the last week? Apart from cursing the snow, obviously, we've been trying to move into our house. It takes time. A lot of time. We're not anywhere near being finished, but we're getting there. At least I have a good feeling about moving here now, and I like living here. I like our house. The Internet isn't perfect, but as it turns out it's OK. It could always had been worse. Oh, and we have curtains! Theo seems to think this place is a little scary, I have no idea why. He looks a little timid, but I'm hoping it's just a phase. Cuda and Felix are enjoying themselves, although I think Cuda would have preferred it if we returned Felix to his breeder. He just won't live him alone!

I have also been shopping a little.. yes, shopping, with an empty account. Thankfully I have a very nice fiancé who has figured out that my mood improves several notches if I'm allowed to shop a little from time to time. No, seriously, I loaned a little money to have some fun; a trip to Make Up Store to check out their newest collection BonBon. Did I splurge? Of course. I'll tell you more about it in one of my next posts. I also received an eyeshadow from Sugarpill, a #wonderfulwednesday prize from IsaDora and I picked up five nail polishes from their new Jewels of the Orient collection. Am I happy? Indeed! Material happiness is totally underrated.

Oh, by the way.. do you see this text in handwriting?

Jack Frost, how I loathe thee!

I shouldn't have mentioned Jack Frost yesterday, because today he arrived. In all his glory, and then some. Looking out the windows is depressing, although the fuzzballs seem to love the 'awesomely fun white substance' suddenly covering everything. This is Felix' first experience with snow, and just like his brother Cuda he's absolutely fearless - as opposed to Theo, who seems to think he's beyond staying outside if the weather is anything less than pre-tropical. Cold and wet paws? Totally unacceptable.

Yesterday we purchased a new stove, and I'm head-over-heels in love with it. As I tweeted late last night, I guess I'm entitled to call myself a grownup when I get all excited about a stove, no? My darling big brother paid part of it as a housewarming gift, and my parents also gave us a new upright freezer. Awesomeness! We're still living in a hot mess, it'll take a few more days to get everything into place, but we're slowly getting there. Now dinner's cooking, courtesy of my brother, and I'm waiting for Øyvind to come home with more boxes to empty out.

We’re moving in!

We could finally collect the keys to our new home on Sunday. With the speed of lightning we packed up everything needed to spend our first night and almost immediately started moving in. Even though I think I need a few more nights here to grow accustomed with having moved from Solsiden, I loved living in the middle of everything (maybe the idea of having everything within reach more than anything), I think I'm really going to thrive here once we have finished moving in and made the place our own. The sun graced us with her appearance early yesterday, and it felt awesome. It's weird how much the sun means, how it works wonders for the mood - it certainly feels like this winter is going to be a lot easier to pull through than the previous four, even though I might just become surprised when Jack Frost arrives for real.

I'm a little (or maybe quite a lot) bummed out about the Internet connection here, we went from 70 Mbit/sec to 5 Mbit/sec, and when I ran a speed test I actually got 3.5 Mbit/sec. Depressing. Hopefully we'll have access to cable within a year, I'm too dependent of my Internet to endure this slow connection!..

Apparently we have a great wildlife around here, or so the neighbor lady said when she popped by yesterday. I like having nature around me, and the air here is a lot less polluted (which is good for my lungs). We put up a pen for the dogs late Sunday night, so they have been running around, playing and wrestling out on the lawn - and they seem to be very pleased with their new environment. Although, I'm wondering what'll happen once they sense a moose or a deer somewhere close, and I'm praying to the Gods we won't experience a tick invasion!

I adore our new refrigerator, it's huge with tons of room for food. We've got a brand new induction cooktop, which works like plain magic. I'm fascinated. I'm sleeping like a baby in our new bedroom, and I can hardly wait until we've settled in. I might even be able to forget about the poor Internet connection for a while. Soon I'll start building my office slash makeup room, which means a lot more room for organizing and other fun! Hopefully I'll have my computer, my camera and all my other thingamabobs available in the next day or so, then I can go back to my normal blogging about the superficial joys of my life.
