EOTD: Draped in Velvet

Yesterday I did not only one, but two complete looks. The first one was pretty much the same as this, only using MUS Varieté instead of MUS Velvet. Then I got this bright idea of practicing my non-existent eyeliner skills, ruining everything. The disaster left me with one choice: remove it all and start over. I felt like the intense blueness of MUS Varieté was a bit over the top, maybe a little intimidating, so I switched it out with MUS Velvet - an insanely gorgeous taupe. I can honestly say that this has become a new favorite, even over M·A·C Satin Taupe (which has been my go-to shade for several years). Personally I thought this look looked a lot better in real life, but then again.. I'm my own biggest critic.

Products

→ MUS Eye Primer in Clear
→ M·A·C Femme Fi (highlight)
→ MUS Brown Sugar (inner third lid)
→ MUS Velvet (outer two thirds and crease)
→ L'oréal Lash Architect 4D Mascara in «Black Lacquer»
→ M·A·C Eye Brows in «Spiked»
→ Sonia Kashuk Large Crease Brush
→ Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush
→ Sigma® Performance E21 Smudge Brush

Walkthrough

Like usual I started off my filling in my brows, and for once I was actually pleased when I was done! «Spiked« has also become a favorite of mine, even though I tend to change it up by using either «Lingering» (for a softer look) or M·A·C Impeccable Brow Pencil in «Taupe». One thing I don't really like about «Spiked» is that it sometimes leave small specks of color in my brows, which falls onto my cheek or under eye area, and make small streaks when I try to remove them. After finishing my brows I moved on to my eyes, priming my lids (all the way up to the brow) with my MUS Eye Primer. I applied «Velvet» to about two thirds of my lid, and «Brown Sugar» to the inner third using an old Sonia Kashuk brush I had forgotten about. It's excellent for placing color, and for blending everything together. I did however use the Deluxe Crease brush to blend around the edges. Then I pulled out «Femme Fi», my own HG highlighter, and used the E21 brush to place a little bit under the highest point of my brow and inner corner of my eye. In an attempt of challenging myself every time I do my makeup I used the same E21 brush to add some eyeshadow underneath my lower lash line - and amazingly enough, this brush gave me enough control to prevent me from feeling like a panda! I chose to skip tightlining and eyeliner in general, so the last step was just adding a coat of mascara.

I purchased two of the L'oréal Lash Architect 4D as a travel value pack when I was on M/S Color Magic, and I absolutely hated it the first time I wore it. I left it on my desk for a while, and yesterday I just grabbed something - and it sort of surprised me. When it comes to mascara I prefer the larger rubber wands to the older, thinner spoolie, and this one is definitely of the older style. I like its texture, it's not too wet nor too dry, not too glossy and I find it easy enough to apply (keep in mind that I use one - 1 - coat). Now, for some odd reason it flakes on me. Suddenly I have a whole invasion of tiny black specks on my nose, or some other completely illogical place! I wasn't wearing anything else black, so it had to be the bloody mascara. It's also pretty resistant when it comes to removal before bed. I have no idea what to do, but I don't think I'll be using it again - and I have a whole brand new tube (unopened) if anyone's interested in giving it a new and loving home?

  1. Nydelig skygge!

Wink

  2. Good job! Again, I’m so impressed with how well you do your brows. They’re impeccable! (pun pun) You inspire me, woman! Smile

Damn you!

Wink
