Tag: What’s Your Makeup Story?

Renate over at Renates Sminkeeldorado has tagged me, and since it's all about makeup I thought I give it a go. If you're interested in reading my answers then read on, or if you couldn't care less just skip this post. Smile

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
- My mom always let me play with her makeup - or maybe that's just the way I choose to remember it - so I've been interested in makeup ever since I was a little girl. I remember playing with the million lipstick samples my mom had gotten from Avon and Oriflame as a nice memory from back in the days. Somewhere I have a picture of me and a girl named Torill with our faces covered in bright red lipstick, a day I'll never forget. Not even if I try. I think I was six years old at the time.

I don't think I've ever actually worn makeup on a regular basis, not even as an adult, but I really discovered the fun of colors and makeup two-three years back, when I was 28 or so.

2. How did you get into makeup?
- You know, I don't really remember, it all happened gradually. I suspect I have Specktra to blame for my addiction as I met many wonderful ladies there, and that's where I've gained most of the knowledge I have about different brands and such now. I've also emptied out my bank account several times by pillaging the "Clearance Bin" section there, getting my hands on many limited editions, discontinued and otherwise hard to get items.

3. What are some of your favorite brands?
- It's impossible to pick just one. I would have to say M·A·C, Illamasqua, MUFE, NARS and Urban Decay (listed in random order). I'm also a fan of Everyday Minerals.

4. What does makeup mean to you?
- Nothing at all. Really. I mean, I'm not the kind of person who can't leave the house before "putting on a face". It's a passion, a hobby, a way to express my creativity.

5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?

  • M·A·C Satin Taupe
  • M·A·C Espresso
  • Max Factor False Lash Effect
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero or M·A·C Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline

6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
- That I don't have to please anyone but myself. I wear whatever I like, whenever I like.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?
- I'll be the first to admit that I might be a bit snobbish when it comes to makeup, because I tend to reach for my more expensive stuff when I'm doing a look. With that said I have to stress that I do use drugstore products as well, like my HG mascara from Max Factor. In most cases you'll get what you pay for, but drugstore brands are improving every day when it comes to pigmentation and quality. I don't use makeup from brands like Dior, Chanel or similar (very) high end makeup brands.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
- Invest in some good quality brushes, with good brushes most of the job is done before you start. Ask around, try stuff, experiment, enjoy yourself - and don't worry about what others think!

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
- Those hideous "nude" lips that make you look more dead than alive, and also using a wrong shade of foundation or diving into your bronzer face first to look more "tanned".

10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
- I like it. Unfortunately there's a lot of harassing going on, and I can understand that the YT gurus grow tired of all the crap they have to keep up with. I've learned a lot of interesting and new things from watching videos on YouTube, and I don't think I would be where I am today if I hadn't been on a constant search for new things to expand my makeup horizon.

I would really like to tag Pinchy and Fieran, and Anna if they would like share their answers with the rest of the pink world of makeup addicts. No pressure!

  1. Aaaw jippii Grin tack för taggen.. har redan gjort den Grin
Det är roligt med såna här taggar, man lär känna varandra lite Smile

  2. Oh, my first tag! Grin Thank you, I’m excited to do this Smile I find it interesting that the five products you picked were all eye products – but then again your skin is pretty perfect! Smile

  3. Anna:
Bare hyggelig, søte du! Smile *klem*

I’m glad you thought of it as OK, I’m always worried that people will get mad when I tag them. Maybe because I don’t really like tags myself, although this one was cool enough. Smile Actually, that kinda surprised me too, but it’s no secret that I prefer eye makeup – and thank you so much for the sweet compliment! It’s not perfect though, by far. Wink
