EOTD: Classic Look

M·A·C #239 and Essence of Beauty Crease Brush Duo

I know this is a rather lame EOTD since it's really hard to see the look or the colors, but I decided to post it anyway to help myself remember which products I used. This is the look I wore for the Karpe Diem concert, and with it I also wore a classic red lip made up by M·A·C Brick lip liner and M·A·C Viva Glam I lipstick. I should have added a black eyeliner on my top lash line, but I was in a hurry and I really didn't want to risk ruining the whole look - I still don't feel confident enough about the liner.

When I look at my picture I think the edges should have been blended a little better, but it looked a lot softer in real life. I guess the flash makes the edges more harsh, if that's possible. All-in-all I was very pleased with this look, and I'm quite positive I'll be doing it again. Can't seem to stay away from that Satin Taupe, I think it's time to name it one of my HG eyeshadows!

Picture was taken indoors in artificial lighting.

  1. I’ve never used black eyeshadow before – time to play with UD’s Perversion I guess. I worry I’ll look Goth Smile

  2. Fieran:
This is actually the first time I’ve used black e/s myself, I just figured I should try adding a little depth to my look. Carbon is potent stuff, so you need to use a very light hand, but I know exactly what you’re afraid of.. I’m scared senseless of looking like a raccoon! Wink

  3. I was talking to this MUA in the Amsterdam MAC store (she was a sweetheart), she said that Carbon is less blendable than Nehru. She recommended I get Nehru but again, the fear of the racoon look kept me away. I keep thinking about it but it’s a Matte shade, no? The Matte colours are a bit of a challenge for me as my blending skills aren’t that great – hence why I didn’t get Palace Pedigreed.

  4. Fieran:
Both Carbon and Nehru are mattes yes. I think if you use a very light hand, and build it gradually instead, it’s a lot easier to work with. Espresso is also matte, but I’ve never had any problems blending it – not even with a MAC 224 (I prefer the largest brush in the Essence of Beauty Crease Duo, which you can order from MakeupGeek), while Carbon scares me to death. Maybe it’s because Espresso is a lot lighter, it’s not as intimidating?

I’m quite sure you can do it! Blending is something you learn gradually. Just keep practicing, and you’ll get the hang of it – although I haven’t seen anything “wrong” with what you have shown us so far! Smile

  5. Very very pretty! Smile You’ve inspired me to wear Satin Taupe twice this last week! Grin
